Using a Bangladeshi Power of Attorney in the UAE and making a UAE Will remotely
If you are in Bangladesh and need someone to sell, transfer or manage an asset in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah or Fujairah, begin with the UAE organisation that will receive the Power of Attorney and the exact act it must permit. The UAE Embassy in Dhaka publishes that Bangladesh-issued documents must first be attested by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs; the Embassy stage is then requested through UAE MOFA and uses the original document and the mission’s courier process. A Will is a different instrument: select a UAE registry whose published eligibility, asset coverage and remote process fit you rather than assuming that a Bangladeshi ওসিয়তনামা or a POA automatically controls UAE assets.

The Bangladesh-to-UAE route at a glance
The route has two separate tests. Bangladesh and the UAE mission authenticate the public signatures and seals in the document chain. The UAE land department, court, bank, developer, vehicle authority, free zone or company then decides whether the wording, identity evidence, language and powers fit its transaction. Finishing attestation does not compel the receiver to accept an incomplete power.
| Stage | Published or receiver-led step | Decision before moving on |
|---|---|---|
| 1. UAE transaction | Identify the exact authority, bank, developer, free zone, company or court that will receive the POA | What acts must the representative perform, and does the receiver publish wording or a checklist? |
| 2. Bangladesh execution | Execute the instrument through the notarial, registration or other competent-official route applicable to that document | Do not sign early if the official must witness or authenticate the signature |
| 3. Bangladesh MOFA | The UAE Embassy in Dhaka says a document issued in Bangladesh must first be attested by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs | Confirm the original, identity, prior authentication and submission format required for this document |
| 4. UAE Embassy Dhaka | Apply through UAE MOFA for a document issued outside the UAE; the Dhaka mission says the original is required and publishes courier collection and delivery | Follow the route and payment instructions generated for the actual document rather than a third-party checklist |
| 5. UAE completion and receiver | Complete the assigned UAE MOFA, certified-translation and receiving-authority requirements | Attestation authenticates the chain; the receiver still determines scope and acceptance |
What Bangladesh law calls a Power of Attorney
Bangladesh’s official Power of Attorney Act uses the term পাওয়ার অব অ্যাটর্নি and defines the person granting authority as the পাওয়ারদাতা and the person receiving it as the পাওয়ারগ্রহীতা. It distinguishes a সাধারণ পাওয়ার অব অ্যাটর্নি from an অপ্রত্যাহারযোগ্য পাওয়ার অব অ্যাটর্নি. People also search for আমমোক্তারনামা, a familiar Bengali term for a general power.
Those Bangladesh-law categories are useful for finding the subject, but they do not map automatically onto a UAE “general” or “special” Power of Attorney. The Bangladesh Act makes registration compulsory for the irrevocable category it defines and requires the relevant intention, responsibilities, powers and acts to be stated clearly, with photographs and national-identity copies. That is not a universal checklist for every document going to the UAE, and this page does not classify a proposed instrument under Bangladesh law.
The practical drafting rule is narrower: describe the UAE transaction precisely before execution. If the representative must sell a named Dubai property, transfer a vehicle in Sharjah, vote shares in a RAK company or deal with a Fujairah bank, the document should identify the asset, receiver and necessary acts instead of relying on the familiar title alone.
What the UAE Embassy in Dhaka publishes for Bangladesh-issued documents
The Embassy’s current attestation page says it attests documents issued in Bangladesh and that they must first be attested by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The UAE application is made through the MOFA service by selecting the route for a document issued outside the UAE. The Embassy states that the original document is required for its digital-attestation service.
“Digital attestation” does not mean the original stays at home. The Dhaka mission publishes a courier process: after online payment, the service provider contacts the applicant, provides the air-waybill details and arranges collection. The mission currently publishes collection and delivery estimates, but those are operational estimates rather than a legal deadline or a guarantee. Follow the order’s live tracking and mission instructions.
The same mission page says that a document issued outside Bangladesh must be attested by the UAE mission in the country where it was issued. That matters when the principal happens to be in Bangladesh but the underlying document was issued elsewhere: the country of issue, not merely the current address, may change the mission route.
Choose the UAE receiver before writing the powers
“Power of Attorney for Dubai” is not one product. Dubai Land Department may be the receiver for a Dubai property transfer, RTA for a Dubai vehicle, Dubai Courts for notarial ratification or a court matter, and a bank or developer for its private process. Abu Dhabi uses ADJD notarial services and separate asset authorities. Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah use the federal judicial/notarial system for relevant services but still have local transaction authorities. Ras Al Khaimah has its own Courts Public Notary and local authorities.
A property sale may require authority to sign the sale contract, attend a trustee office, transfer title, discharge a mortgage, deal with the developer and receive proceeds. A vehicle, bank, company or court POA requires different powers. Obtain the receiver’s requirements before completing the Bangladesh chain; a later wording change can require a new signature and fresh authentication.
This page therefore serves every emirate without creating thin “Bangladesh to Dubai”, “Bangladesh to Sharjah”, “Bangladesh to RAK” and “Bangladesh to Fujairah” copies. The foreign authentication side is shared; the genuine transaction differences are handled by the relevant UAE service and authority pages.

Can a Bangladeshi owner make a UAE Will without travelling?
A Will—often searched in Bengali as উইল or ওসিয়তনামা—takes effect on death. A Power of Attorney authorises acts during the principal’s lifetime. A representative cannot sign or register the testator’s Will under a POA, so the remote-Will question must be handled through the chosen registry’s own process.
DIFC Courts publishes the clearest remote route for an eligible non-Muslim testator: UAE residence is not required, the registration appointment may be virtual, and witnesses may join from anywhere in the world. Abu Dhabi Judicial Department publishes a Civil Will route for a person who is not a UAE citizen regardless of religion, with a standard English-Arabic template and an online notarial-attendance stage after review. Dubai Courts publishes a non-Muslim Will service, but its current conditions distinguish a valid-Emirates-ID online applicant from a passport-only person who must appear in person.
Nationality does not choose the registry. Religion where relevant, citizenship, assets, children, language, eligibility and appointment method all matter. This page does not say that a Bangladeshi Will automatically governs a UAE asset, or that a UAE-registered Will settles assets in Bangladesh. Those cross-border succession effects require advice in both relevant jurisdictions.

Information to collect before drafting or signing
Prepare one complete instruction before the instrument enters the Bangladesh and UAE authentication chain. The receiver may ask for more, but these facts expose the most common scope gaps early.
- Principal: passport name, nationality, Bangladesh address, current location, identity documents and whether a valid Emirates ID exists.
- Representative: full passport or Emirates-ID details, UAE contact details and relationship to the principal where relevant.
- Asset: title-deed details, vehicle information, company and licence, bank/account context, or court and matter reference.
- Transaction: sale, purchase, gift, mortgage, management, handover, registration, litigation instruction or another exact act.
- Receiver: DLD, RTA, ADJD, RAK Courts, a federal service, local land or vehicle authority, bank, developer, free zone or company.
- Bangladesh route: competent execution official, Bangladesh MOFA requirements, UAE Embassy Dhaka application and original-document courier handling.
- Language: whether Arabic, bilingual text or an MOJ-certified legal translation is required, and how names and asset details will remain consistent.
- Will route, if relevant: registry eligibility, assets, guardianship facts, witnesses, language and remote-appointment conditions.
Questions
Can I sign a Power of Attorney in Bangladesh to sell my Dubai property?
A published attestation route exists, but obtain the Dubai Land Department, trustee-office, developer and any bank requirements before signing. The Bangladesh MOFA and UAE Embassy Dhaka stages authenticate the document chain; they do not guarantee that the receiver will accept the powers.
Does a Bangladesh document go to Bangladesh MOFA before the UAE Embassy?
Yes. The UAE Embassy in Dhaka currently says that a document issued in Bangladesh must first be attested by Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The exact prior execution or authentication step depends on the document, so confirm it with the competent Bangladesh authority.
Can the UAE Embassy Dhaka attestation be completed online?
The application and payment use the UAE MOFA digital service, but the Embassy says the original document is required and publishes a courier collection and return process. “Digital” therefore does not mean an upload-only process.
Is an আমমোক্তারনামা automatically valid in Dubai?
No title alone proves acceptance. আমমোক্তারনামা is familiar search vocabulary, while the UAE receiver decides whether the execution, attestation, Arabic translation, identity evidence and exact powers fit the transaction.
Can I register a DIFC Will while I am in Bangladesh?
DIFC Courts publishes that an eligible testator does not need to be UAE-resident and may register through a virtual appointment, with witnesses joining from anywhere. Eligibility and the assets covered still require case-specific review.
Can my attorney sign my UAE Will for me?
No. The testator must make and execute the Will through the chosen registry’s process. A Power of Attorney is not a substitute for the testator’s own act.
What this page does not do
- The Deedbox prepares UAE-focused documents. It is not a Bangladesh or UAE authority, not a notary and not a law firm. It does not issue authentication, attestation, legalisation or Will registration.
- This page covers a Bangladesh-to-UAE document. It does not provide a Bangladesh domestic আমমোক্তারনামা or decide Bangladesh law.
- The Bengali section is search orientation, not a certified translation and not Bangladesh legal advice.
- Bangladesh’s competent authorities, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UAE Embassy in Dhaka control the live execution, authentication, appointment, payment and courier requirements.
- Attestation authenticates signatures and seals. It does not approve the document’s contents or compel a UAE receiver to accept it.
- The final UAE receiver controls scope, language, identity, recency, originals and attendance.
- The cross-border effect of a Bangladesh or UAE Will requires appropriately qualified advice in each relevant jurisdiction.
